Roshani Chokshi: The Last Tale of the Flower Bride

Mit prächtigen Bildern, einem ruhigen, intensiven Erzählstil und wunderbaren Worten erschafft Chokshi eine düstere Geschichte, in der die Grenze zwischen Realität und Vorstellung verschwimmt, die gespickt ist von märchenhaften und mythologischen Elementen und dabei nicht nur durch ein altes und mysteriöses Haus eine schauerhafte Atmosphäre schafft. Erzählt auf zwei Zeitebenen, wobei mich die eine Sichtweise mehr einnehmen konnte als die andere: Die toxische Freundschaft hat mich emotional sehr mitgenommen.
Trotz der Ruhe der Geschichte war mir das Tempo am Anfang viel zu schnell und ich hätte mir gewünscht, dass sich Chokshi für die Liebesgeschichte mehr Zeit genommen hätte. So konnte ich die wohl vorhandenen Gefühle der beiden Figuren nie nachvollziehen und blieb ihnen gegenüber recht distanziert.
Empfehlen kann ich die Geschichte Leser*innen, die Gothic Novels mögen, einen aufwendigen Erzählstil und dieses wunderschöne Buch im Regal stehen haben wollen. 4 Sterne.
